Description

These are illustrations that I did for a legend we had to write in French class, I translated it so you guys could understand :D
Some names might be weird or incorrect but I'm not Japanese nor have I ever studied it (nor my teammate for that matter)
P.S. The fish god thing was all invented and I hardly doubte this superstition is from Japan or that this legend has "spread far and wide" let's just say as wide as my class and French teacher ^^;
The resizing kind ruined the quality -_- by the way it's in Chinese ink :heart:

Comments are appreciated :dance:

Ladies and gentlemen, :bow: the legend:

This legend came from Japan, my friends, and it spread far and wide with the passing time. Centuries ago, back in the day when fishing was no simple feat, there lived a young man on an island of the archipel of Ryukyu. His name was Soshyato. He was not too strong and not too handsome, but he was courageous and had a kind heart. Soshyato lived happily with his younger sister Sakimi. But one day, the mighty dragon Ryo-Wo was passing by there and he fell in love with Sakimi. So the monster swept her away to his own island.

Soshyato who loved his sister very much, couldn’t have that, he traveled for three days and nights until he found Ryo-Wo’s domain. Gathering all his courage he came up to the menacing creature and spoke:
-O Ryo-Wo! What must I do to gain my sisters freedom?
-Hmm, said the dragon after a thought or two, bring me three nets of fish caught in this very lake! You have till sunset, he added with a smile.
Soshyato looked at the giant nets presented to him and his spirits fell. He knew the task was impossible, but having no other choice, he went off to his boat.

Hours passed without success. As the sun was near it’s setting, Soshyato caught his first fish. But to his surprise, the glittering fish did not squirm around, instead it spoke to him:
-Soshyato, I am Yoshimo, the fish god, free me and you will catch as much fish as needed.
Soshyato did not dare disobey a god and freed him instantly. He thru his net in again and upon taking it out, found it full to the limit. Rejoicing, he thru in the other two nets and obtained the same result.

His three nets filled, Soshyato wet back to the dragon and told him proudly that his challenge had been defeated. Not being able to go back on his word, Ryo-Wo freed Sakimi, but in his misery and embarrassment he jumped into the lake and drowned. That was the end of the great dragon and that of the story.

Since then, fishermen still believe that throwing back your first fish always promises a good catch because you are honoring Yoshimo, the fish god.
